Carolyn Coker Ross, MD, MPH ~ Integrative Medicine

Integrative Medicine for Eating Disorders, Addictions, Obesity and Mental Health

Dr. Carolyn Coker Ross is an internationally known author, speaker, expert and pioneer in the use of Integrative Medicine for the treatment of Eating Disorders, Obesity and Addictions.  She is a graduate of Andrew Weil’s Fellowship Program in Integrative Medicine. She is the former head of the eating disorder program at internationally renowned Sierra Tucson. Dr. Ross is a consultant for treatment centers around the US. She is the author of three books including one of the first books on Binge Eating Disorder: The Binge Eating and Compulsive Overeating Workbook and her recent book, The Emotional Eating Workbook. Dr. Ross currently has a private practice in Denver and San Diego specializing in Integrative Medicine for treating eating disorders, addictions, mood and anxiety disorders and obesity.


Food Addiction vs. Binge Eating Disorder

This workshop will explore the neurobiology of food addiction and binge eating disorder and will also address how food has changed in ways that may make it more likely to promote addictive behaviors. The workshop will address food cravings and their relationship to food addiction and BED and will discuss the overlap of characteristics between food addiction and BED.

This workshop will enable participants to understand the physiological effect of certain foods in the body and on the brain, identify risk factors for food addiction (both genetic, nutritional, emotional and physiological) and BED and learn to use integrative medicine approaches to reduce risks for and behaviors related to both.

Healing the brain, body and spirit in co-occurring addictions and eating disorders

Eating disorders (ED) and substance use disorders (SUD) co-occur in many individuals. This workshop emphasizes the importance of treating ED and SUD simultaneously as well as treating the underlying neurobiological, physical and traumatic causes of both. The presenter will offer a specific integrative approach to heal brain, body and spirit.

The Truth About Food Addiction

This workshop will explore the neurobiology of food addiction and also address how food has changed in ways that may make it more likely to promote addictive behaviors. The workshop will address food cravings and their relationship to obesity and will discuss the overlap of characteristics of substance use disorders, obesity, eating disorders and food addiction

The Healing Power of Integrative Medicine

This talk gives information about the use of alternative therapies, supplements and mindfulness in healing sleep problems, dealing with stress, depression and anxiety.

Addictions: the Opiate Epidemic and More

The public is more aware than ever about the prevalence of substance use disorders, particularly opiate / heroin addiction. This talk will give an overview of how addictions are diagnosed and treated with emphasis on what is new in the field to help those suffering with addictions.
