Jeff Stoffer ~ CFA, CFP Financial Planner

JeffStofferJeff Stoffer CFA, CFP® is a principal at Stoffer Wealth Advisors, a financial planning and investment advisory firm in Marin County. Jeff earned a B.A. in Cultural Anthropology from UC Berkeley. He then put his long-standing interest in gourmet cooking on the front burner, becoming chef at the nationally renowned restaurant, Chez Panisse. Pursuing a parallel passion for finance and investments, Jeff received a Masters degree in Finance as well as the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) accreditation. Jeff worked for eight years at several large firms in San Francisco doing investment research and portfolio management. Subsequently he became a Certified Financial Planner™.  Jeff now focuses all of his skills on helping people to achieve confidence and ease with money through financial planning.”

Jeff served on the board of Whistlestop for three years. He was also a mentor for Marin Education Fund (now 10,000 Degrees). He is a graduate of the San Rafael Leadership Institute and has subsequently volunteered his time there. And perhaps most unusual of all, he raised money for Homeward Bound (Novato, CA) by demonstrating how to prepare a four-course meal while talking about financial planning.

The Psychology of Money: Do We Spend Our Money on What Matters Most?  – Jeff draws upon research in the areas of neuroscience, evolutionary psychology and behavioral finance (without the jargon, of course!) to help you answer this profound question. Much of our money behavior is unconscious. Do we really know why we make some of the choices we do? This talk from Jeff highlights things that lead to bad decisions and how you can work through them to increase your nest egg.

Emotions and Money – Do you have any idea how emotions affect how we spend money? Our past, how we were raised and the financial events in our lives have a hidden impact on us. Many of our spending choices are unconscious. Jeff believes that we have the ability to make conscious choices, but we need to understand our relationship with money, that is, how our emotions and our history with money influence who we are now.  Join Jeff for a delightfully engaging look at our relationship with money. (Note this is a workshop format and conducive to time allotments of one hour or more)

“Having been a Rotarian with a perfect attendance record for near 30 years, I have witnessed many presentations. These past three years I have served as the Speaker/Program Chair securing speakers we hope will attract new members. Jeff’s talk was a delightful surprise in that he had members explore the whys and wherefores of how they invest and think about money all without judgment or making any feel “wrong or inadequate.” It was a VERY well-received talk that members went home better off and thinking about their futures with tools to make better decisions.”
~ David Kurland, Rotary Ignacio, Program Chair
“Jeff is professional, sticks to his time schedules and uses some fun & appropriate humor to keep his audience engaged with great slides and graphics.”
~ Matt Broadway, Rotary Mission San Rafael, Program Chair

“I had several comments from members about what a great job he did in talking about managing the job search and money with many references to his own time out of work and his being very worried about his finances. And how he handled it in a rational and detailed way.”
~ Bob Wickham, Marin Professionals, Speaker Chair

“Jeff is very passionate about what he does and it shows. His presentations are informative and engaging.”
