Sara B. Hart, PhD

Sara has her own management consulting company, Hartcom, which she launched 20+ years ago. Hartcom focuses on leadership development, coaching, and team building inside organizations. Much of Sara’s work focuses on how to build a Thinking Environment (TimetoThink.com) in which people can do their best thinking.

Of special interest to her is a project she has had for many years called the Sign of Enough, which is designed to help us answer the question “How will I know when I have enough?” Her interest in this idea has grown over the years as the economic inequality in the United States and around the world has become more significant; our overconsumption continues to place our environment at risk; and many of us seem to have forgotten what’s most important to us as we strive for more and more and more.

Recently Sara published a book called The Upside of Downsizing:  Getting to Enough in which she describes the emotional side of going through a major downsizing of your home.

Sara loves to go on bike rides, walks, attend movies, concerts, opera, theatre, and especially to have dinner with friends.  She lives with her cat, Mr. Bu, in Los Altos, California.

The Upside of Downsizing: Getting to Enough

What is the emotional side of doing a major downsizing of your home?  Sara will talk about her own emotional journey while doing a significant downsizing of her home and moving to a much smaller place.  This is not about the practicalities of downsizing.  It is about how it feels to get rid of years’ worth of sometimes treasured things.  She also will make suggestions on how to make the process less painful.
